FAQs

Common Questions

Can't find your answer? Give us a call on 07940 071963.

Yes — electric showers must be connected to a dedicated circuit from your consumer unit, sized correctly for the shower's kW rating. A 9.5kW shower requires a 40A or 45A circuit; a 10.5–12kW unit requires a 45A circuit. We always install a correctly sized dedicated circuit as standard, not a shared circuit with other appliances.

Replacing a like-for-like shower unit on an existing circuit may seem straightforward, but it is notifiable work in Scotland. Any connection or disconnection of a shower to a mains supply must be carried out by a qualified electrician and certified. Our Edinburgh electricians handle this quickly — usually in a single visit.

Higher kW means more powerful heating of the water — particularly important during Edinburgh winters when incoming cold water temperatures are lower. We generally recommend 10.5kW or above for Edinburgh homes to ensure a comfortable shower in colder months. We'll also check your consumer unit capacity to confirm what your existing installation can support.

Either works. Many Edinburgh clients prefer to select their own shower unit and we connect it. Alternatively, we can advise on and source units for you. We'll let you know if any unit you've selected is unsuitable for your Edinburgh property's electrical supply.

Yes — all electrical work in bathrooms is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations, regardless of the scope. As a registered contractor, we self-certify and issue a completion certificate for all Edinburgh bathroom electrical work. This is essential for insurance and property sale purposes.

Yes — we regularly install electric showers in Edinburgh tenement flats and high-rise properties. The key consideration is the consumer unit location and cable run distance. We'll assess this during your site survey and confirm the most practical and cost-effective installation route for your Edinburgh flat.
